ABOUT

Anu Bhagwat

I am a person-centered, humanistic, and integrative psychologist, specializing in attachment-based therapy, parts work, and EMDR, with a strong trauma-informed framework. With over a decade of experience in the mental health field, I have had the privilege of practicing in diverse cultural contexts, including Australia, India, and Cambodia. My approach is grounded in a deep understanding of the complexities of trauma and the importance of creating a safe, empathetic space for healing.

I am registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and hold a Master of Science in Applied Psychology. As a psychologist, I draw from a wide range of therapeutic tools, including Art Therapy and EMDR, to help individuals, couples, and families navigate their unique healing processes. I am genuinely interested in what my clients have to say, and I tailor my approach to meet their individual needs, ensuring a personalized and effective experience.

I am warm, approachable, non-judgmental, and compassionate. I believe in person-centered therapy, which allows me to customize each session to the specific needs and personalities of my clients, walking alongside them at their own pace. I incorporate creative techniques and strategies from various therapy models, making the process non-threatening while deepening the healing experience and facilitating the gentle processing of difficult emotions.

I firmly believe in empowering my clients. Through therapy, clients gain the inner strength and courage to make healthier choices and take steps aligned with their personal goals. I help them identify and understand behavior patterns and blind spots that keep them trapped in painful cycles, empowering them to change what no longer serves them. This newfound understanding leads to greater control and fulfillment in their lives.

In my experience, most people simply want to feel understood, supported, and heard. They want to be seen and accepted for who they truly are, to know they are significant just as they are. They seek healing, freedom, and hope—a way out of their struggles. At Yellow Brick Counseling, we create a safe space for clients to explore the difficult emotions and experiences that hold them back from achieving these goals.

The work I do is deeply rooted in the belief that everyone has the potential to heal, change, and grow. I strive to plant hope and a deep sense of assurance in my clients’ hearts and minds—no matter how stuck they feel, how overwhelming their challenges may seem, or how dark their journey appears…

…there is always a way!

Having lived and worked as a psychologist in numerous multicultural settings, I relate easily to people from diverse backgrounds. I am multi-lingual and speak English, Hindi and Marathi fluently, with a touch of Khmer. On a more personal note, I am passionate about life, I love the outdoors, new experiences and activities that are stimulating and fun. I love to learn and grow. I recently went to an aerial silks class and I have experimented with aerial yoga and the Lyra hoop—my inner child loves all the swinging and hanging upside down. I am always up for a walk, a chat, a good glass of wine, adventure and board games. I hope this gives you an idea of my person, my approach to clients, psychological counselling and life.

I look forward to working with you beautiful people.
