ABOUT

Anu Bhagwat

I am a person-centered, humanistic, integrative EMDR, trauma-informed psychologist in Melbourne, Australia. I have practiced in the field of mental health since 2011, in Australia, India and Cambodia. I am registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and I hold a Master of Science in Applied Psychology. In my practice I use Art Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma Informed Healing quite extensively. I work with individuals, couples and families and am truly interested in what my clients have to say.

I am warm, approachable, non-judgmental and compassionate towards my clients. I believe in person-centered therapy, which means that sessions are tailored and customized to the needs and personalities of my clients. I walk alongside my clients at the pace they set for me. As a psychologist, I use a lot of creative techniques and strategies that are integrated from a variety of therapy approaches. This keeps psychological work non-threatening for clients, whilst deepening the experience of healing and  facilitating the processing of painful things in ways that are comfortable and gentle.

Throughout the process of psychological healing, I help my clients achieve the goals they set for themselves, grow in love for self, build strong connections within. As a result, they make meaningful connections with people around them. I teach my clients how to navigate the uncertainties of life by equipping them with resources that build resilience, and providing support, warmth and the expertise necessary to deal with various complexities.

I believe in empowering my clients, therefore the experience of therapy with a trained psychologist will ensure my clients feel equipped with the inner strength and courage to make healthier choices and take steps that fall in line with their personal goals.

help my clients identify and understand patterns of behaviour and blind spots that keep them trapped in painful cycles. This new understanding empowers them to change the things that make them unhappy, thus helping them feel more in control, and as a result, lead fulfilling lives.

In my experience people simply want to feel understood, supported and heard. They want to be seen and feel accepted. They want to know they are significant just the way they are. They want to heal and be free. They want hope and a way out of their struggle. At Yellow Brick Counseling, we create a safe space for clients to explore the difficult ‘stuff’ that keeps this from happening.

The work I do with my clients is based on a deep belief that everyone can heal, change and grow. Therefore, I strive towards planting HOPE and a deep assurance in the hearts and minds of my clients’ that no matter how stuck they feel, no matter how overwhelmed or lost, no matter how dark the night…

…there is always a way!

Having lived and worked in numerous multicultural settings, I relate easily to people from diverse backgrounds. I am multi-lingual and speak English, Hindi and Marathi fluently, with a touch of Khmer. On a more personal note, I am passionate about life, I love the outdoors, new experiences and activities that are stimulating and fun. I love to learn and grow. I recently went to an aerial silks class and I have experimented with aerial yoga and the Lyra hoop—my inner child loves all the swinging and hanging upside down. I am always up for a walk, a chat, a good glass of wine, adventure and board games. I hope this gives you an idea of my person, my approach to clients, psychological counselling and life.

I look forward to working with you.
